Formal Poetry

Long nights with no end in sight makes for sleep less nights

Love is in the air for me and so far away he is, across the street up the elevator

Maxi dresses are in season all year around for me, airy and beautiful

Purple, the color of royalty, what I feel in my heart, determination to have what I deserve

Ramadan will be upon us soon, not to eat from dawn till dusk, pray to feed my soul

The need is great to expand my library, I must visit Barnes & Noble soon

Food for the stomach, good food for the heart to feel the love of the chef

Classes on Sunday are hard but fun, real dedication is what it takes

Thinking of a robopoclypse and wondering if humanity will prevail

All this money for cable and nothing to watch, waste of money

Pablo Picasso

The painter seems interested in sadness and things with deep expressions. The theme seems to be sadness, darkness and love at the same time. The colors used in this painting are all dark. He uses a lot of grays and blacks. His lines are  very smooth. It seems he pays great attention to his lines and curves. I think the painter wants me to feel that with love there’s also sadness but all you need is the object that gives you comfort. He doesn’t use much symbols I believe he wants the viewer to focus only on what he feels is important.

Final Reflection

I feel like my writing has gotten stronger over the course of the semester. I am more sure of the voice I give my poems. I believe the place poetry has in this world is freedom. I feel most people are put under the pressure that they have have to be perfect or act a certain way and poetry is an outlet that allows you to express what ever you feel inside with out restrictions. Most likely not or at least only if I feel the need to. I’ve never really written poetry without a cause and if I don’t have one I won’t write but that might change. It has been a fun class thank you for everything ^_^

The song speaks of all these extraordinary things happening but it wouldn’t matter if you weren’t with him and he scared that she doesn’t exist. He feels if she doesn’t exist he doesn’t want to either. It’s a love song. There is a rhyme scheme behind it also it flows. The song paints a picture.

Poetry to Watch

Yellow Rage- What Do You Know About Being Asian (Def Poetry Jam)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y22ty-VPpbA

I loved how the delivery their poem. Sometimes the girl on the right seemed to falter but she always regained her self. In their poem they talked about how they were tired of people trying to figure out whom and what they are.

Mike-Thinking about You (Brave New Voices)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0QiFy8dmX0

This poem also had a good delivery. It was very cute and it always makes you smile with the way he thinks outside the box and connects things like mathematical terms and brings it to love.

Poetri- Dating Myself (Def Poetry Jam)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFhFaRKVpTY

Out of all the poems this delivery I liked this one the least and although it was still comical it could have been better in both delivery and content. I especially did not like the way he finished it. It left me thinking there would be more to it but not in an edger way.

Ben- Storm Cloud (Brave New Voices)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkTG7AZXF_Q&feature=relmfu

This was a deep poem and although he didn’t deliver in a loud, commanding voice he still had the audience captivated with the poem he was sharing. The content of his poem was something that everyone abandoned by a parent can relate to. It was a beautiful poem.

Alysia- That Girl (Brave New Voices)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t7UsbvF4qY&feature=related

This was my favorite poem. When she gave her delivery you felt her pain, anger and sadness. The expressions and power in her voice brought it to life. When you hear her poem you feel for her as a person not just because she had a good poem.

What Makes My Mouth Water by Amina Bryan

The Wolf the Boy Always Saw

I saw the sheep with two legs and I saw the sheep

The two legs guarded them like they were his young

How proud he stood but so young

To easy to manipulate. It will be a good dinner today

I held my nose in the air to discover he was by himself

Out I walked proud and unafraid there I stood as the boy cried wolf

The sound of feet into the bush I went

More sheeps came and searched for the wolf the boy saw

But none they found

Away they went and out I came smiling at the two legged sheep

This time I came closer

I smelled his fear mixed with determination

Again the boy cried wolf

I said to him they will not believe you

Into the bushes I went again

As the sheeps came back again

Angry that they were disturbed for what they thought was nothing

I watched as the admonished the little sheep

Away they walked not one turning around as they did

He cried out, angry and frustrated

So out again I walked this time to pick my sheep

And this time they made noise but it was futile

No one would come

I helped myself to a fat one

And the two legged sheep went screaming

He cried wolf again but I knew no one would come

He sat and cried so I went to him and said

It is in your nature to not trust after “false” things have been said

I told the truth, the boy screamed

And I played upon the heart of you people because it was easy

I knew how it would play out

Do not blame them it is your nature

I took my sheep and walked away into the bushes away from the wails

A tree grows in Brooklyn is what I think of myself
I’ve always heard the grass is greener on the other side but it doesnt seem like it to me
Or maybe I’m looking on the wrong side
Trash is what I see
No candy, no jump rope, no chalk
Nothing n’ nobody to play with
Don’t step out side that gate my mama says
Or else I will never come back
So I sit n’ watch thinkin’ other kids will come out n’ play
But it seems like their mamas told dem not to come out neitha
But they sit on the steps too
Waiting to see whole will step out first
This is the only game we allowed to play
This is my childhood game
The violence has robbed us of our childhood
My momma told me to be better then her
My daddy told me to love myself
The gates that I see can’t keep me in
I have dreams
I have a story
I am a pretty tree that grows in Brooklyn healthy and strong
Deep set roots so these streets can’t move me
